Apparently Singapore has an incredibly low birth rate, and Mentos thought this little ditty would convince people to get it on and procreate (and buy Mentos).
Well, okay.
That was kind of disturbing…and it kept going. It kind of makes sex unsexy if I’m doing it out of patriotic duty.
Yeah, terrible idea.
The reminds me of the tennis player Bjorn Borg, of all people. He starred in a bunch of television ads in Sweden with the tag line Fuck for the Future. Really.
Seems Sweden had done a little too well with their anti-overpopulation program and were faced with a very large population of elderly citizens with not enough working citizens to pay for the expensive social programs that supported them.
Go Sweden.
Apropos of almost nothing except DogOnDrugs’ comment…I used to do banking for Bjorn Borg. Long time ago in a land far far away. I never actually met him though.
I had a coworker once tell me that I needed to have kids so I had someone to take care of me in my old age. Apparently she could have been a PR person in Sweden. As if you can guarantee that those kids will even be talking to you when you are 80 and need someone to put you in a home.
Wow, that’s a terrible reason to have kids!
